Each banking option includes a $175 non-refundable deposit, which is due at enrollment. If you choose to prepay, the balance of the first year fees and any storage fees are due when your baby arrives, and is payable based on your selection of a payment plan below.

The Collection Process: What to Expect

You have a lot to think about and to prepare for before your baby arrives. That’s why we’ve made the collection process as easy as possible. Here’s what to expect in a few simple steps. If you have questions or concerns about the collection process, call us at 1-877-543-3226, we’re happy to help!

Before Your Baby Is Born

  • Sign up to receive your Collection Kit
  • Once you receive your Collection Kit, keep it at room temperature, and do not remove any collection materials from it
  • Read the Expectant Patient Booklet that comes with your Collection Kit

Plan-ahead tip: pack your Collection Kit with your hospital bag when you’re around 34 weeks pregnant.

At the Hospital

  • Bring your Collection Kit to the hospital with you
  • Let the nursing staff and your healthcare provider know that you are collecting your baby’s stem cells

After Your Baby Is Born

  • Once your baby is born and the umbilical cord has been cut, your healthcare provider will collect blood from the portion of the cord attached to the placenta
  • If you are banking placental stem cells and placental tissue, the entire placenta will be collected separately and placed into a special bag

The entire collection process is performed by your own healthcare provider, is safe and noninvasive, and only takes about 5 minutes!

Stages of Stem Cell Collection: Transportation


  • Call LifebankUSA at 1-877-543-3226 to arrange for a courier to pick up your Collection Kit
  • Keep your collection kit with you at room temperature until the courier arrives
  • Your collection kit is transported by medical courier to the LifebankUSA laboratories for processing and preservation

The pickup generally takes place between 8 AM and 8 PM your local time.

  • Once your barcoded and labeled collection kit arrives at LifebankUSA, each component is inspected during a strict protocol verification process
  • Your baby's collection is then processed in one of our specialized laboratories
  • After processing, you will receive a letter informing you of the total cell count of your collection

  • The stem cells will be cryopreserved in a vapor-phase liquid nitrogen storage tank that is continuously monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
